Would you know if your identity was stolen? If it was, it could take 600 hours to clear it all up and you’d likely suffer a considerable loss of money as well. I want to give you a tip to prevent it. Did you know that Federal Law guarantees your right to free annual credit reports from the three credit reporting companies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion?
Now listen up. There’s a single website, www.AnnualCreditReport.com, which is the official site to get your free annual credit reports from all three companies. I want you to save this in your phone, www.annualcreditreport.com, because there numerous imitators who try to trick you into their sites so they can charge you for a bunch of things. It can be very confusing if you don’t go to this one single site, www.annualcreditreport.com. Don’t click on links in google search or emails to sites offering credit reports. Just save this one and create an account there.
Now, you get one free annual credit report from each of these big 3 companies. I suggest you run a credit report every 4 months, on a revolving basis amongst these 3 companies. Enter an appointment in your calendar with an annual recurring reminder to run each companies’ report in the same month every year. For example, run Equifax every September, Experian every January and TransUnion every May.
Now when you order your free credit report you don’t get your credit score for free. You must pay for that and it’s like $10. But unless you go slowly through the screens when ordering your credit report, you may inadvertently sign up for credit monitoring or other things you may not want with recurring monthly charges.
Get your credit score and review your credit report. If you spot things that may not be right, call the company and get it fixed.
If you order these free reports on a rotating basis like I’ve discussed, you’ll be seeing your credit report every four months for free. It takes about 10 minutes to order your report and credit score and another 15 minutes to review the report. But at least you’ll know what your creditors are seeing about your credit history.
